What is men’s health exactly? What is acupuncture? As we know and often make light of, men and women are different. You know, men are from Mars and women are from Venus! As the bestselling book would tell us. That means their health concerns are different too.  In the past women have been the more “typical” acupuncture patient, but we see more and more men coming through the doors of our office. This is because acupuncture/TCM provides RESULTS. Men, being goal oriented, like that, right?

Acupuncture/Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) is a highly effective and safe treatment of many male-specific health concerns. Maybe it is not the first place that men look for help, but when results and efficacy without side effects are top priority, than this medicine is an excellent choice. Many people will power through and set their health concerns to the side, not realizing that when health is made a priority, than peak performance is achieved in all areas of life.

What are “male specific” health concerns? Andrology is the branch of physiology and medicine that deals with diseases and conditions specific to men. Men’s health concerns vary, but here is a list of what some of these concerns are and the ones that acupuncture/chinese medicine can treat:

Prostathyperplasia/Prostatitis, Urinary Difficulty, Urgency, Frequency, Incontinence, Insomnia, Stress/Anxiety, spontaneous seminal emissions, low sperm count, subfertility, under or over active libido, ED-Erectile Dysfunction, Premature ejaculation, Pain, Digestive Problems, Headaches/Migraines, Arthritis, and Sports Injuries

The Kidneys in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

In TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, the kidneys are responsible for and are the main source of energy and vitality as we age. This vital energy decreases the older we get. We see this appear in the external body as changes to skin, hair, and aches and pains, but it is happening internally as well. When this vital Kidney energy declines, we see imbalances in hormones and sexual functions, connected with low back and knee pain. This can lead to a decrease in libido, subfertility (low sperm count), erectile dysfunction, and a decrease in prostate function and health.  Acupuncture increases the circulation of energy (Qi) to the prostate area. In treament the Kidney channel through both acupuncture and chinese herbal prescriptions these functions are supported. As the treatment of the kidney energy and essence revitalizes the prostate, the prostate becomes able to self-regulate and return to normal function and size. Treatment of the Kidneys and their channel system will treat prostate health amoung many other imbalances and health concerns men have.
